I spent a lot of college in denial of, self-conscious of, and over-compensating for, my natural introversion. Or perhaps not “natural” introversion as new
introversion? The self-consciousness
redoubled around the time of my introduction to Burning Man; I’m still not sure
why. This weekend, in the desert, I became aware
of this self-consciousness; some of it remains as I hunt it down and
eradicate it.
I’m predominantly introverted. And that’s better than all right. That’s pretty great.
Also, I really like Alice in
Wonderland – the new one – because it reminds me of how I feel as I wake up
from a dream. Did I just create an
entire reality, so detailed and complete
as Alice In Wonderland? What bizarre logic and particular suspensions of reality were in play to allow such an impossible universe to seem so real to me?
I also love that, when I google,
“What does the mad hatter say to the dog?” the internet tells me:
The reason you're worried you can't understand what he says
is because it is MEANT to be that way. I don't live in an english speaking
country and the subtitles at those moments are complete jibberish.
The idea is that the resistance has designed a kind of code language so that the followers of the Red Queen can't understand what they're talking about. However, seeing as Alice doesn't speak the code language, she can't understand him, and since she's the main character, neither can we... It's all explained afterwards though ("What does that mean"/"What did you say").
Anyways he does say Downa wyth [the] Bluddy Behg Hid (down with the bloody big head - AKA Red Queen).

Any movie that seems,
on the surface, completely silly and childish, but has secrets I wouldn’t understand on my
own, after the first umpteen times watching it, is on my list of intriguing culture. I’m sure being super high doesn’t hurt,
either.
(I wonder if I’d have
gotten it if I’d read Alice in Wonderland…)
[Goes on Amazon and orders Alice In Wonderland, paperback and definitive hardback - one to give away, because I might as well do it now, while I'm thinking about it - despite this one negative and hilariously hypocritical 2-star review of the fancy hardbound edition] Had no idea how many times it has been re-made on film. [wonders: how did I miss this piece of culture until now? Probably the same way I missed Harry Potter until the movies came out...]

And now I’m going to
go change my answer to the question, “with whom do you most like to watch
movies,” to “by myself.” Because really,
who else would put up with the movie being paused for the last 30 minutes while
I typed all of this? And because, thankfully, I'm already not nearly so self-conscious about my introversion.
